How firework rockets work
A rocket combines paper with one to three gunpowder, which sets the flight duration, plus any firework stars that decide the explosion. The flight slider here maps straight to the number of gunpowder. Add a star and its shape, colors and effects are baked into the rocket.
Firework star shapes and effects
Choose from small ball, large ball, star, creeper or burst. Each non-default shape needs a crafting item (fire charge, gold nugget, mob head or feather), which the recipe lists. A diamond adds a trail and glowstone dust adds the twinkle effect.
Firework /give command
On Java the full firework is written into a single /give command, using item components on 1.20.5+ or the Fireworks NBT tag on older versions. Bedrock cannot embed firework data in a command, so you get the rocket plus the crafting recipe to build the design.
