About Minecraft Banner & Shield Designer

Design a Minecraft banner or shield without burning through dye in survival. Pick a base color, stack up to six pattern layers in any color, and watch the banner update live. When it looks right, copy the /give command or follow the loom recipe to build it in game.

The designer targets the version and edition you choose, so the command uses the correct syntax: item components on 1.20.5+, the older NBT tag on 1.13 to 1.20.4, and the legacy format on 1.8 and 1.12.2. Bedrock players get the base-color command plus a loom recipe, since Bedrock cannot apply patterns from a command.

How to make a banner in Minecraft

Craft a banner from six wool and a stick in the matching base color, then take it to a loom with a dye for each pattern you want to add. Pick the pattern in the designer, choose its color, and the loom recipe lists every dye in order. Special patterns like the Creeper Charge or Globe also need a banner pattern item, which the recipe calls out.

Banner /give command generator

Prefer commands? Switch to your version and copy the /give command straight into a command block or chat. The designer handles the fiddly color encoding for you: named colors and full pattern ids on modern Java, numeric color ids and short pattern codes on 1.13 to 1.20.4.

Designing a shield

Switch the type to Shield to apply your banner design to a shield instead. On Java the command bakes the pattern straight into the shield item. In survival you combine a patterned banner with a shield to transfer the design.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a custom banner with a command?
Design the banner here, choose your Minecraft version, and copy the /give command. It uses item components on 1.20.5 and newer, or the older banner NBT on 1.13 to 1.20.4.
How many patterns can a banner have?
Up to six pattern layers on a loom in survival, plus the base color. The designer caps at six so the loom recipe always works.
Does this work on Bedrock?
Yes. Bedrock cannot set banner patterns from a command, so the designer gives you the base-color /give command and a loom recipe to build the rest in game.
Why do some patterns need a special item?
Charges like the Creeper, Skull, Flower, Globe and Snout, plus Bordure Indented and Field Masoned, require a Banner Pattern item on the loom in addition to the dye. The recipe tells you which ones.
Is the banner designer free?
Yes, it runs entirely in your browser with no sign-up.
