Enchantment Seed Calculator
Predict exactly what the enchanting table will give you, and find the bookshelf count that gets the enchantment you want.
About Minecraft Enchantment Seed Calculator
The enchanting table is not random in the way it looks. Every player has a hidden enchantment seed, and together with the item and the bookshelf count it decides exactly what each of the three slots will give. Know the seed and you can predict every enchantment before you spend a single level.
Paste your seed to see all three slots for any item and bookshelf count, or pick the enchantment you want and the calculator lists every setup that gets it. No cheats? Write down what the table shows a few times and the calculator works out your seed in your browser.
How do I get my enchantment seed?
In single-player with cheats on (or as an operator), run /data get entity @s XpSeed. The number it prints is your enchantment seed. On a server without commands, use Find my seed instead: it searches all 4.3 billion possible seeds for the one that matches what your table shows.
Finding your seed without commands
Place an item on the table and note the level cost of each slot and the enchantment shown when you hover it. Change the number of bookshelves the table can see (a torch or carpet between a shelf and the table blocks it) and note the table again. With the hover enchantments noted, two or three observations usually narrow it to one seed. Level costs alone carry much less information, and at 15 bookshelves the bottom slot is always 30, so vary the bookshelf count. The search runs on every core of your computer and takes well under a minute on most machines.
When does the seed change?
Only when you enchant something at an enchanting table. Moving items in and out, changing bookshelves, or relogging does not change it. So once you know your seed, try as many bookshelf counts and items as you like for free, and only re-check the seed after you actually enchant.
Re-rolling for the enchantment you want
If no bookshelf count gives the enchantment you want, enchant something cheap to get a new seed: a book in the top slot costs 1 level and 1 lapis. Then read or find the new seed and search again.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a player seed for enchanting?
- It is a number stored on your player (XpSeed) that seeds the enchanting table. The same seed, item and bookshelf count always produce the same three offers, which is why the table does not change when you take the item out and put it back.
- Is this the same as my world seed?
- No. The world seed shapes terrain. The enchantment seed belongs to each player and changes every time that player enchants.
- Does it work on Bedrock?
- No. Bedrock uses a different random number generator for enchanting, so this calculator is Java Edition only.
- Does it work on servers?
- Yes. The seed is on your player, so it works the same in multiplayer. Without operator commands, use Find my seed.
- Which versions does it support?
- It uses the enchanting rules and enchantment data from the current Java release, including spears and the mace. Older versions use the same algorithm, but items added since then will not exist there.
- Is it free?
- Yes. It runs entirely in your browser with no sign-up and no mods.
