How to Install Litematica in Minecraft

Litematica is a client-side Fabric mod that overlays a ghost of a schematic in your world, so you can build it block by block in survival. Here is how to install it on Windows, Mac or Linux, including the one dependency most people forget.

What you need

Three files, all built for the same Minecraft version:

  • Fabric Loader, the mod loader Litematica runs on.
  • MaLiLib, the required library for Litematica. It will not run without it.
  • Litematica itself.

Step 1: Install Fabric Loader

Download the installer from the official Fabric site (fabricmc.net), run it, choose Client, pick your Minecraft version, and install. Then open the Minecraft launcher and launch the new Fabric profile once so it is created.

Step 2: Download Litematica and MaLiLib

Get both from a trusted source such as Modrinth or CurseForge, and match the version to the Minecraft version you set up Fabric for. Save the two .jar files somewhere you can find them, such as your Downloads folder.

Step 3: Put them in your mods folder

Drop both .jar files into your mods folder:

  • Windows: press Win + R, type %appdata%\.minecraft, then open (or create) the mods folder.
  • macOS: in Finder choose Go to Folder, enter ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft, then open mods.
  • Linux: ~/.minecraft/mods.

Step 4: Launch with the Fabric profile

In the Minecraft launcher, select the Fabric profile and press Play. Open the in-game mods menu to confirm Litematica and MaLiLib are both loaded. The default key to open Litematica is M.

Useful default keybinds

KeyWhat it does
MOpen the main Litematica menu
M then LOpen the schematic load screen
C (with a selection)Copy the selected area to a schematic
Minus / PlusMove the rendered layer down or up

All of these can be rebound in the Litematica config, so if a key clashes with another mod you can change it.

Common problems

  • Litematica does not appear: MaLiLib is missing or a different version. Both must match your Minecraft version.
  • The game crashes on launch: a version mismatch between Fabric, MaLiLib and Litematica.
  • No ghost overlay: load a schematic first, then enable the overlay.
  • Wrong profile: make sure the launcher is set to the Fabric profile, not the vanilla one.

Next: load a schematic and build

Once Litematica is installed, download a .litematic file, load it in the mod, and the ghost overlay shows you exactly where each block goes. Grab one from our schematic library, and if you have a .schem or .nbt file instead, convert it to .litematic first. Not sure where to download from? Frequently asked questions

Does Litematica need Fabric API?

Litematica itself needs MaLiLib, not Fabric API. If other mods you run require Fabric API, install that too, but Litematica and MaLiLib alone are enough for Litematica to work.

Why is Litematica not showing up in game?

The usual cause is a missing or mismatched MaLiLib. Litematica will not load without MaLiLib, and both files must be built for the exact same Minecraft version.

Does Litematica work on Bedrock Edition?

No. Litematica is a Java Edition Fabric mod. Bedrock cannot load it.

Can I use Litematica on a multiplayer server?

Yes. Litematica is client-side, so it works on servers without any server-side install. The ghost overlay helps you build a design by hand in survival.

What is the keybind to open Litematica?

The default key is M. You can rebind it in the mod configuration menu.
