The short answer
- Find a build in a free schematic library and check it in the 3D preview.
- Download the file in the format your mod uses: .litematic for Litematica, .schem for WorldEdit.
- Install the mod for your Minecraft Java version.
- Load the schematic in game and build it, either block by block over a ghost overlay or pasted in one go.
Step 1: Find a schematic
Start in the schematic library, where you can search and sort community builds by downloads, version and size. If you already know what you want, jump straight to a category such as Minecraft house schematics or farm schematics. Where it is known, the build page shows which Minecraft version it works in, which matters if it uses blocks newer than your game.
Step 2: Preview it in 3D
Open any schematic to get an interactive 3D preview in your browser. Rotate it, zoom in, and step through it layer by layer to see how it is built before you commit to it. It is the quickest way to check the size and style match what you had in mind.
Step 3: Download the file (free, no sign-up)
Pick a format from the menu next to the Download button: .litematic, .schematic, .schem or .nbt. Every build is free and you do not need an account to download. Your browser saves the file to your Downloads folder.
Step 4: Install Litematica
Litematica is a free, client-side Fabric mod, so it also works on multiplayer servers without any server install. You need three files built for the same Minecraft version: Fabric Loader, MaLiLib and Litematica. Our guide to download Litematica and install it covers where to get each file and how to fix the common errors.
Step 5: Load and place the schematic
Move the downloaded .litematic file into the schematics folder inside your Minecraft directory:
- Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\schematics
- macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/schematics
- Linux: ~/.minecraft/schematics
Create the folder if it does not exist. In game, press M, choose Load Schematics, select your file and load it with Create a placement ticked. A ghost of the build appears where you are standing. Move it into position from the placement settings, then build over the overlay block by block. Use the layer controls to show one layer at a time on tall builds.
Using WorldEdit instead
If you would rather paste the whole build at once, download the .schem format and put it in WorldEdit's schematics folder: config/worldedit/schematics for the mod, or plugins/WorldEdit/schematics on a server. Then run //schem load with the file name, stand where you want it, and run //paste. Pasting changes your world immediately, so back it up first.
Wrong format? Convert it
Found a build that only comes as .schem but you use Litematica, or the other way round? The free schematic converter turns .litematic, .schem and .nbt files into each other right in your browser, so any schematic works with whichever mod you have.
What about Bedrock Edition?
Litematica and the Java version of WorldEdit do not run on Bedrock, and Java schematic files do not load there directly. Bedrock uses its own structure blocks and .mcstructure files, which are smaller in scope. If you play on both editions, the schematics on this site are built for Java.

Frequently asked questions
Are Minecraft schematics free?
Most are. Every schematic on MineSchematic is free to download, with no account and no paywall. Some other sites put builds behind a login, a subscription or a creator's Patreon, so check before you spend time on a site.
How do I get free schematic builds?
Download a schematic file from a free library such as MineSchematic, then load it with a mod. In Java Edition, Litematica shows a ghost overlay you build over in survival, and WorldEdit pastes the whole build instantly in creative or on a server.
How do I get a schematic in Minecraft?
Put the downloaded file in the right folder and load it in game. For Litematica, drop the .litematic file into the schematics folder in your .minecraft directory, press M, choose Load Schematics and load it. For WorldEdit, put the .schem file in config/worldedit/schematics and run //schem load followed by //paste.
Where can I download Minecraft schematics?
MineSchematic has thousands of free community builds with a 3D preview on every page, and you can download each one as .litematic, .schematic, .schem or .nbt. For a side-by-side look at other sites, see our comparison of the best Litematica schematic sites.
Do I need a mod to use schematics?
For .litematic and .schem files, yes: Litematica or WorldEdit. A .nbt structure file can be loaded with vanilla structure blocks, but they are limited in size, so mods are the practical way to build large schematics.
Can I use schematics on Bedrock Edition?
Not directly. Litematica and the Java version of WorldEdit do not run on Bedrock, and Java schematic files do not load there. Bedrock has its own structure blocks and .mcstructure files, so most schematic sites, including this one, are aimed at Java Edition.
